We all love our lashes, and we would love them even more if they were fuller and longer; long, voluminous lashes are the ultimate sign of femininity. Lashes add definition to the eye and camouflaging the signs of aging. Time alone causes the lashes to appear thin and short, but you can make a statement with these lust-worthy lash treatments, tools and techniques. Original article on lashes from NewBeauty.com

Go Faux

Try false lashe—but choose wisely. Lashes that are too heavy can look unnatural. One to try: Winks by Georgie L’Avant-Gardiste Lash Compact ($28) comes with easy-to-apply and reusable lashes. The mirror in the compact really lets you see the lash line up close so that you can apply them perfectly every time.

Line the Lashes
A thin swipe of black eyeliner smudged at the lash line is an easy way to accentuate the eyelashes. Try a waterproof pencil like Anastasia Beverly Hills Covet Waterproof Eyeliner ($19) for some long-lasting staying power. Follow with your favorite mascara.

Double Thickness

A celebrity favorite, lash extensions are a good option for instantly thicker and longer lashes for an extended period of time.

Long-Lasting Length

For patients dissatisfied with the length, darkness or thickness of their eyelashes, surgical and nonsurgical treatments are available. According to Beverly Hills, CA, hair restoration surgeon Dr. Craig L. Ziering, the FDA-approved, prescription strength medication Latisse can enhance sparse eyelashes. For more of a permanent change, eyelash transplant surgery can be performed, which restores the actual eyelash hair. But Dr. Ziering says the four-hour long outpatient procedure, which can only be done on the upper lids, won’t give the fullness that false eyelashes provide. “Growth of new lashes can be seen after two months but the final result may take one year since all the grafts have to mature. These newly grafted eyelashes require monthly maintenance like trimming, curling and tinting,” says Dr. Ziering.

Should I Get BOTOX or Juvéderm?

Some of your friends might be doing it; you know your favorite film star is doing it. And when you’re ready, you want to make sure you do it right. We’re talking about getting anti-aging injections that can make you look younger in just one office visit. You’ve probably heard a lot about BOTOX, which is the world’s most popular non-surgical cosmetic medical treatment. The injectable dermal filler Juvéderm is also a well-liked option to consider.

What’s important to know is that these two treatments are used to solve different issues, so you want to determine what you would like to improve and choose the treatment that works for your needs. BOTOX and Juvéderm products can also be used together, which can offer dramatic and still natural-looking results.

BOTOX in Tampa
BOTOX is basically a muscle relaxer and is used to de-wrinkle areas like frown lines, crow’s feet and the glabella, the area between the eyebrows. On the other hand, Juvéderm is an injectable filler that plumps up wrinkles. It’s used to fill in folds like those “parentheses” that run from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth, fine lines around the mouth and hollow areas under the eyes.

Juvéderm For Perfectly Plump Cheeks

If you still aren’t sure which treatment would help you more, a good medspa will provide a complimentary consultation so that you can review your options with an expert. Look for a practice where the injectors have lots of experience, and you’ll end up with beautiful, safe and natural results!

Five Facial Plastic Surgery Predictions for 2014

Plastic surgery is back. The number of people undergoing cosmetic plastic surgery plummeted after the economic recession of 2008, but the most recent figures suggest that a double-digit comeback is underway.

Here’s what top facial plastic surgeons predict we will be seeing more of (and less of) this year.

1. Fat is phat.

Using your own fat for cosmetic surgery has experienced a pronounced uptick in popularity in the past few years. Fat harvested from one part of the body, such as the tummy or buttocks, is transferred to facial areas. We will see more fat being used in 2014 largely because the results are becoming more predictable and longer lasting. There will also be an increased interest in the healing and regenerative potential of growth factors, stem cells and other substances found in fat.

“Facial plastic surgeons are continuously refining their fat harvesting and injection techniques, utilizing a variety of different methods and in some cases, combining fat with other substances, such as platelet rich plasma. Besides restoring volume, the data suggests that adding fat back to the face may also improve the skin texture and tone,” says Ed Farrior, MD, FACS, president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).

2. Designer filler debuts.

At long last, after being a big hit across the pond, Juvederm® Voluma received the official nod from the Federal Food and Drug Administration in late 2013, and this filler fills an important niche—the cheeks or mid-face. Juvederm® Voluma does more than just spackling over lines and plumping up creases. It adds volume and fullness to areas of the face that with advancing age and enhances facial symmetry. Expect other site-specific "designer-fillers" to enter the United States market in 2014.

3. Lips become the new "it" spot for rejuvenation.

Growing numbers of women will be opting to plump up their puckers for Valentine’s Day and beyond. Gone are the days where lips are overfilled and inflated with collagen a la Goldie Hawn in “The First Wives’ Club.” Now, facial plastic surgeons have mastered the fine art of lip enhancement and can achieve natural, subtle, soft and kissable results.

4. Rhino-popularity continues to soar.

Found to be the most common surgical procedure for both men and women under 35, according to the AAFPRS, and the most in-demand facial plastic surgery among men, rhinoplasty has seen a recent resurgence in interest.

Rhinoplasty is so popular that facial plastic surgeons coined a term for it—rhino-popularity—and it’s here to stay. The nose is the central feature of the face and even a small improvement of plus or minus a few millimeters of cartilage or bone can make a big impact in your overall appearance.

5. The big chill
Baby it’s really cold outside! The Polar Vortex has dipped into record-breaking negatives across many parts of the United States. But facial plastic surgeons are quick to point out that freezing can have some important cosmetic and reconstructive benefits. Expect to hear more about crythotherapy and its many roles in 2014 including freezing your fat and forehead wrinkle smoothing.

PARTY MAKEUP INSPIRATION

Each time you get dressed up to go out, you have many  different eye makeup options… it really just depends on your mood and outfit! You can draw a cat eye, you can leave them bare to keep the focus on a bold lip, you can rim the inner waterline, you can do a classic smoky eye, or… you can do a Sparkle Smudge! It’s dramatic and ultra-feminine and very compliment-heavy. So add this option to your repertoire and I trust you’ll bring it out on the perfect occasion! Here’s how:

TOOLS:

Longwear Eyeliner Pencil: You can use a kohl pencil as well, but when you smudge it, it’s going to dissipate too much, so I recommend using a longwear pencil so it’s more intense and lasts longer. Try Laura Mercier Longwear Creme Eye Pencil in Espresso or Wet N Wild Megalast Eye Pencil in Black/Brown.
Sparkle Shadow: I used Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadow on Lexi above because it’s the perfect amount of sparkle without getting showgirl.
Voluminous Mascara: I used Covergirl Bombshell Volume Mascara because it gives the biggest lashes out there right now.

STEPS:

1. Line the upper lashline. Make it a generous line and not too thin!
2. Next, line the lower lashline. While you’re down there, rim the inner waterline as well.
3. Smudge the upper liner with your finger by rubbing your finger back and forth to really smear the liner onto the lid. Keep most of the intensity towards the lashline and the rest on your lid (keep it south of the crease). If you need a refresher, revisit my Smudging 101 Tutorial.
4. Smudge the lower liner with your finger as well.
5. Press your finger into the sparkle shadow to pick up the product as demonstrated above. You can certainly use a brush, but I love the control you have with your finger.
6. Press the shadow directly on top of the smudged upper liner. Stamp it all over the liner then continue just above it into the crease.
7. Press the shadow onto the lower smudged liner as well.
8. Finish with a couple coats of mascara.

Going out tonight? Try doing a Sparkle Smudge! Get the complete look with longer lashes, too! Click here for all the steps, the final eye + final full face look. Read more.. http://thebeautydepartment.com/2014/01/party-makeup-inspiration-2/

Botox Receives National Marketing Authorization to Treat Crow's-Feet Lines

Today, Allergan, Inc. announced that Botox has received the license from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe lateral canthal lines (crow's-feet lines) seen at maximum smile, either alone or when treated at the same time as glabellar (or frown) lines seen at maximum frown, in adult patients where these facial lines have an important psychological impact. This marketing authorization is specific to Allergan's botulinum toxin type A product and is based on Allergan's successful global Phase III clinical trial program in crow's-feet lines.

"This latest approval for Botox demonstrates Allergan's continued commitment to excellence in neuromodulator innovation and our long-term leadership in medical esthetics," said Paul Navarre, president of Allergan Europe, Africa & Middle East. "We are proud to deliver this important innovation to medical esthetics practitioners in the United Kingdom, allowing them for the first time to treat the glabellar and crow's-feet areas either alone or simultaneously."

Great news for BOTOX!  It has just received the license from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe Crow's Feet, meaning that this stuff really works! To read the entire article click here.
